DeepMatter are very proud to present the first of two forthcoming remixes from Myele Manzanza, taken from his 2021 'Crisis & Opportunity, Vol.2 - Peaks' album.
For the first remix, Myele returns in a team-up with Blue Lab Beats' David Mrakpor.
The remix sees David deconstruct Myele's track, re-recording all of the instruments from scratch and turning in a grooving, midnight neo-soul number. Synth pads sit high atop the infectious melodies from Myele's original, with David also laying down a beautiful vibraphone solo break.
"I had the good fortune of meeting Dave Mrakpor when we were billed together at a jam session in 2020 where he was playing bass. Then I end up seeing him on gigs performing on drums, key and vibraphone and I thought, damn, is there something this guy can't do? Seriously one of the most gifted, funkiest, alien savant musicians I've ever come across and I'm glad to have gotten this remix from him."
Originally hailing from New Zealand, Myele made the move to London in 2019. Having tapped into the vibrant scene of his adopted home with a top-tier cast of young London-based talent (including Ashley Henry and the legendary Mark de Clive-Lowe) the resulting 'Crisis & Opportunity Vol.1 & Vol.2’ gained praise from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, Jamie Cullum, Huey Morgan, The Guardian, Complex, Jazz FM + more. A founding member of Electric Wire Hustle, Myele has released four solo albums and racked up tours and collaborations with Jordan Rakei, Theo Parrish, Miguel Atwood- Ferguson, Hiaus Kaiyote and The Bad Plus.
